Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What should my family wear for our session?

A:   Wear items of clothing that you feel good wearing: comfort is a great characteristic to look at first. Some families like to have a coordinated or put together look, where everyone wears neutrals, a coordinated color, or their best holiday plaids, etc. While this can pull a picture together, it is not mandatory. Do what's best and comfortable for you and your family.

I would, however, advise to stay away from clothing with text or pictures.

Q: Will there be props for our session?

A: Great question! I don't use too many props of my own; I bring the occasional book or a simple toy for the kids to interact with, but that's about it. I don't want to take away from the important part of this session: you and your loved ones. I encourage all of my clients to consider bringing an item (toy, book, blanket, etc) that is meaningful to them if they would like to. If so, we can incorporate it into our shots, especially for a special event or newborn photo session.

Q. You're coming to my home to take my photos.  How can I be ready?

A: While you definitely don't have to redecorate or scrub the house down for in-home sessions, (Please don't! Remember - we're capturing a moment in time in your life!) I usually just recommend you take a look around and ask yourself if there is any item you would dislike seeing in the background of your photos for years to come. If we're taking pictures in your home, parts of your home are going to be in the background of your photos. That's what makes the pictures special and more meaningful.

Q: How will you know what pictures I'll want you to take?

A: We'll talk about it, of course. Let me know of any special groupings of people, individual portrait shots, or if there is a specific idea you have in your head. We'll work together to make sure you're happy with our time together and your photos.
